What is Arà

ARA’ is a young production company undertaking projects in every sector of audiovisual media, from television to new media, concentrating on documentary and fictional cinema.

ARA’ is all about a healthy passion for one’s work according to the principle that the main strength of emergant cinema lies in achieving highly professional work.

ARA’ aspires to be much more than just a brand name, it aims at being a hallmark of quality, innovation and originality.


ARA’ is a company producing films based in Modica (RG).

The company was founded with the aim of creating ‘in house’ films for all types of audiovisual channels, from television to the new media, with a particular interest in cinema, both documentaries and fictional films.

In 2011, Arà produced the short film “Disinstallare un amore”, selected at more than one hundred festivals around the world and which has received dozens of awards.

In 2015, “Italo”, the first full-length film produced by Arà was released. The film took € 800,000 at the box office, was viewed on prime TV in more than 4,000,000 homes thanks to Sky and Rai1 and has been shown in cinemas in dozens of countries around the world.

In 2017 Arà produced the short documentary “Vasa Vasa“, the story of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ told from the emotional point of view of the Madonna, as re-enacted in the Holy Week liturgy in the Sicilian town of Modica. The short was released in Sicilian theatres for one month during Easter period, and it is actually screened in many festival all around the world.


Alessia Scarso

Born in 1979, she has a degree in editing at the ‘Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia’ in Rome, which is the oldest cinematographic school in the world and the most important one in Italy. She has worked as montage editor and post-production coordinator with a number of journalists, film producers and directors on journalistic investigations, documentaries and short films. Alessia has also directed several commercials and official documentaries.

Her first foray into directing fiction was with “Uninstalling love” (“Disinstallare un amore“), a short film selected at more than one hundred festivals around the world and which has received dozens of awards. She was the editor of the movie “Come Non Detto”.

In 2015, her first full-length movie, “Italo”, was released in theatres: the real and touching story of an extraordinary stray dog, who was able to give a whole town lessons of humanity. Her first feature was viewed on prime TV in more than 4.000.000 homes thanks to Sky and Rai and has been shown in cinemas in dozens of countries around the world.

In 2017 she produced and directed the short documentary “Vasa Vasa“, the story of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ told from the emotional point of view of the Madonna, as re-enacted in the Holy Week liturgy in the Sicilian town of Modica. Vasa Vasa, after its debut in the United States, has been selected in international movie festivals.
